Dick grew up working on his family’s farm during the depression in Bay City, Michigan. In his early 20’s, life changed dramatically when the United States entered World War II. Answering his country’s call, Dick enlisted in the Army Air Corps where he eventually flew in the single largest humanitarian mission ever—the Berlin Airlift. 

After an honorable discharge, Dick moved to the Springfield area as he had long felt that New England was one of the most beautiful areas he had ever seen. Dick continued his career in aviation by flying commercially for Trans Ocean Airlines. 

During this time, he began to pursue his interest in developing land and building homes. Dick truly believed that he could take a piece of raw land and improve it through proper development. This belief has been at the core of McCullough Builders since the first home that Dick built in 1953, and as a result, the McCullough signature can now be found on some of the finest homes in the area. 

Anyone who knew Dick would most likely remember him for the integrity with which he approached his relationships. Dick’s high ethical standards and fairness in dealing with both customers and subcontractors has earned McCullough Builders a longstanding reputation that is among the highest in the industry. Over the years, Dick’s unique approach to building has been handed down to his son and staff—who are proud to keep the traditions alive!
